I have tracked the origin of the Echo in the Elderwood to the old Human ruins. Unfortunately, there isn't much of the stuff to collect, but I shall do my best to see how the Substance interacts with organic and inorganic material. Trial #1: I submerged a small piece of driftwood into a vial of the Substance. When removed, the wood's properties did not substantially change.

Trial #2: I submerged a carrot seed into the Substance. The seed began to sprout rapidly in the liquid. When planted, the carrot matured in a mere day's time. The result was unlike any carrot I'd ever seen: it had teeth. Trial #3: I fed the resulting carrot to one of my pet hopalongs. The thing became ravenous and angry. It even ate Amadeus's butler's hand. Fascinating! I wish I'd had a chance to witness it.

Conclusion: Unlike Flow, Echo seems to only affect living samples. The more complex the living sample, the more changed the subject seems to be. Unfortunately, without more of the substance, I cannot conduct further tests. A pity! I will have to journey further into the ruins to see if I can collect more. Addendum: Looking at Eloine's study of Amber Echo, it appears these findings are only true for the pure Echo found in the Elderwood. However, the Amber seems to impart emotion rather than enhance it. Fascinating! I suppose my useless sister may not be an entire waste of Mother Phoenix's resources after all.
